Colin's Favorites

Here are a few of my favorites.  Yes, many of them are all alphabetized.
I'm just a bit CDO (that's OCD, but the letters are in the right order).

Activities and Interests:

God, my awesome youth group, guitar, drums, studio recording, home recording, live sound, playing for the High School/Jr. High bands, speakers, compressors, gates, reverb, delay, amplifiers, subwoofers, tweeters, mixer consoles, disc golf, web design, game development, graphic design, pc gaming, messin' with Swarbrick, Hot Pockets, The Pen

Music:

Question any of my tastes in music and expect a lecture.  My vocabulary of amazing bands is constantly expanding, and I can argue for any of my tastes from a very opinionated musicians perspective.  I am familiar with a huge range of rock music from classic 60s-80s stuff as well as a lot of modern stuff.  As much as I love all of the amazing classic rock music, especially Aerosmith, Boston and Foreigner, most of the time I prefer to listen to modern music.  Depending on my mood, I listen to everything from instrumentals (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani) to soft rock (Anberlin, Lifehouse), punk rock (Relient K, New Found Glory), alternative rock (Pearl Jam, RHCP), standard modern rock (Earshot, Shinedown, Daughtry), nu-metal (Chevelle, Disturbed, Korn), and metal (Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold).  By an immense, grand canyon of a margin, my favorite band of all time is Alter Bridge.  The band consists of three former members of Creed (Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, Scott Phillips) in addition to former Mayfield Four singer/guitarist Myles Kennedy.  Together they are an incredible musical talent that has gone so far since their former hindrance known as Scott Stapp.  Mark Tremonti is my favorite guitarist, and general musician in fact, of all time (and I am familiar with all the classics like EVH, Satriani, Vai, Clapton, Slash, etc and the modern ones like Malmsteen).  He not only writes most of the music and lyrics for Alter Bridge and sings backup vox for them, but he is an absolutely ridiculous guitar player.  For further proof, look under my links page for some Tremonti videos and sites and then go listen to ANY of Alter Bridge's songs.  In particular, listen to "Ahavo Rabo Taco Salad," an instrumental song done by Alter Bridge for Total Guitar Magazine.  Tied for second place position are Shinedown (all of their songs are incredible, but their ability to write and sing amazing ballads is unbelievable) and Tool (especially their more recent stuff from 10,000 days and Lateralus).  I am also good friends with the guys from The Stillpoint Band (note the About Me page), and they are great musicians with a huge heart for God.  I am also friends with a former guitarist for Dallas rock band Rustik, who deserves to be known SO much more than they are.  Take a look at both.

Movies:

Usually I'm a sucker for the stupid/funny movies that don't require me to think at all, but sometimes I can really get into the complicated, thriller/suspense/mystery whatever type movies too.  I don't watch many movies, especially in theatres, and I never spend time really analyzing a movie and thinking about how the plot fits together.  I say if you can't just go see a movie and enjoy it (regardless of your expectations going into it), you just shouldn't be watching movies and making me miserable with your over-examinations.  Thank you and good night.

Fun With Dick and Jane, The Mask, Bruce Almighty (notice a Jim Carrey theme?), Christmas Vacation, Night at the Museum, Harry and the Hendersons, Airplane, Spaceballs, Madagascar 1 and 2, Men In Black, Deja Vu, United 93, What About Bob?, Elf, The Producers, The Butterfly Effect, Bourne Movies, National Treasure movies, Transformers, Get Smart (but the old show is SO much better), Happy Gilmore, Swing Vote, Accepted

TV Shows:

I don't really have many TV shows that I usually try to make a point of watching.  These are a few of the ones that I do, plus a few that I could just watch over and over again if they happen to be on.

24, Chuck, Dirty Jobs, Fresh Prince, Fringe, Futurama, Hell's Kitchen, House, Monk, Mythbusters, Whose Line is it Anyway

Games:

I am a devoted PC gamer (better graphics, sound and controls).  I really don't play games that often these days, but every couple of months I will work on my Oblivion profile for a while or do some online COD or something.

Bioshock, FEAR Combat (I love the single player too... but it's freaking scary and most of the time I can't handle it), Oblivion, Morrowind, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Assassin's Creed, Brothers In Arms, Call of Duty Series, Company of Heroes, Splinter Cell Series, Portal, HAWX, Fallout 3, Unreal Tournament 3

Books:

I really don't read much.  Usually when I do I will just read the latest Fader magazine, some book on recording techniques, Guitar Center catalogs or a software manual.  Of course I do some reading for school related stuff, but it's not really something that I do in my free time.  Other than the Bible, a lot of my favorites were forced reads that were actually very interesting, particularly the ones that I read with my Bible study group.

The Bible, UnChristian, MaxQ, Flyboys, The Pursuit of Happyness (intentionally spelled incorrectly)

Here's something a bit controversial.  I have admittedly read the first in the Twilight series and started the second one.  While I think the author has some serious issues to work out, I must admit that it held my attention and was a pretty quick and interesting read.  Can't say that I'll be finishing all four, but you never know.

Quotes:

Some of these will not make sense unless you know the people involved and were there to witness them.  In general, I just like to collect random things my friends, family and teachers said to post to my Facebook page.  Send me an email for explanations...
